Flickr now offers short videos which can be posted along with pictures on pages throughout the photo sharing Web site.
"Flickr is a very different experience from anything else out there,"Flickr director Kakul Srivastava said. "We are not trying to be the highest volume site, but we are trying to be the most interesting, authentic and personal."
However, the new Flickr video upload feature comes with a new "pro" premium price of $25 annually. Users with the premium account can contribute videos to their Flickr pages, while those that don't can opt for the "basic" account which lets people store and share several hundred digital photos for free.
"We found that pro users' passion and standards determine what Flickr feels like as a community," Srivastava said. "We want to maintain that feel."
The new video sharing features were launched Tuesday in eight foreign languages on Flickr international Web sites worldwide.
Flickr limits each video length to 90 seconds after a recent survey revealed that most videos kept on their PCs were no longer than the new limit.
{slot15}"Flickr is not the place for a one-hour wedding video," Srivastava said. "People who've tried it so far have found that 90 seconds is plenty of time when it comes to video."
Each video can also be "geo-tagged" with descriptions marking where the video was taken on a geographical map. The online atlas is updated as new videos are uploaded and tagged.
Yahoo says that Flickr says that nearly three million pictures are uploaded daily on the Web site which has 25 million registered users. The Web site has nearly 46 million visitors each month.
