The new Palm Centro mobile cell phone will be sold through Verizon Wireless for $99.

Palm Inc today announced that the Palm Centro smart phone will be available in Verizon Wireless Communications Stores beginning June 13. The deal will give the mobile cell phone maker access to Verizon&#39s 67.2 million subscribers.

Palm said it had already sold more than 1 million Centros through Sprint Nextel Corp, which began selling the Centro last fall, AT&T Inc and international carriers.

Centro runs on Verizon Wireless&#39 high-speed data network, which gives customers the ability to quickly send and receive e-mail messages and attachments and browse through rich Web content. Verizon Wireless customers can also use the Centro as a modem for their laptops when they subscribe to Verizon Wireless&#39 BroadbandAccess Connect service plan. The handset sports a vibrant color touch-screen, full QWERTY keyboard and a lightweight design.

Centro&#39s built-in Google Maps application delivers quick, reliable directions and lets users perform local searches and view moveable/scalable maps, satellite imagery and traffic updates. Customers can also map a contact&#39s address directly from the contact application simply by selecting the "maps" button.

Earlier this week, Apple unveiled its latest 3G iPhone, which features a lower price tag that it hopes will further fuel its drive into the market.

In its most recent quarterly results, Palm said the low-priced Centro was off to the strongest start of any smart phone in its history.

The new Palm Centro mobile cell phone price is $99.
