Toshiba has announced a new HD-DVD player priced at only $99 from selected USA Wal-Mart and Best Buy retail outlets. The player is the Toshiba HD-A2 and will also include five free HD-DVD movie titles.
The special was introduced as a "Black Friday" sale, which seems to be happening earlier each year. The real Black Friday happens after Thanksgiving Day.
{slot15}HD DVD is competing with the Sony Blu-ray format and this just might swing a few consumers to make the swap to Toshiba. Toshiba is hoping that the new low-cost player will help them gain more market share. The lowest price we found on a Blu-ray player was $499, the Sony BDP-S300 model. Sony said they will reduce the Blu-ray down to $399 this holiday season.
The Friday-only special will end tomorrow, but Amazon.com, Circuit City and Wal-Mart vow to sell the Toshiba HD-A2 HD DVD player for only $198 during non-promotional periods. This will mean that if you want to save almost $100, buy it today.
Either way, this is an excellent price whether you purchase it for $99 or $198. You are still getting a cheaper deal with five impressive movie titles bundled with the next-gen player.
