Television has been the greatest advertising medium of all time, but it appears that the Internet is working hard at taking that title away from T.V. Research conducted by Harris Interactive suggests that more people are spending more time on the Internet and less time watching T.V. And many of those are spending time at YouTube.com.
The Harris research shows that about 42 percent of U.S. adults say that they have watched a video at YouTube. 14 percent say that they visit YouTube.com frequently. But that big story is that 32 percent of these frequent YouTube watchers say that they are watching less T.V. in favor of watching YouTube videos.
Now of course YouTube is looking for a way to earn income from this information and the common answer would be to advertise on the video site more. However, 73 percent of all frequent YouTube visitors say that they would visit YouTube much less if they were to place short video advertisements before each YouTube video. It looks like YouTube will have to place more on-site ads or pop-up ads instead of short video advertising. They are, after all, in business to do business and earn an income, not just to show fun videos.
