New Slimmer Sony PSP to be Ready for Tokyo Game ShowPosted Jul 16, 2007, 4:18 PM ETSony revealed the new slimmer PSP at E3 last week and plans on having it ready for the market by the time the Tokyo Game Show rolls around.According to Sony Computer Entertainment Chief Executive Kazuo Hirai, "From a distance, this PSP might not look very different from the current model...but when you have it in your hand, the difference becomes quite clear as it's actually 33 percent lighter than the current PSP. It's also 19 percent slimmer." Hirai replaced Ken Kutaragi as the head of Sony's game division earlier this year. Kutaragi is known as the "Father of the PlayStation", but is not gone from Sony but is still serving in a consultive position. Though Sony sold 8.4 million PSPs in the year ending March of 2007, Nintendo outpaced Sony by selling more than 23.6 million units. Sony said that the new slimmer PSP will retail for about $170, about $40 more than the newest DS model.
