MySpace has been accused by several U.S. states of not doing enough to protect young people using their MySpace.com service. Eight states have even gone as far as to formally request a list from MySpace of all sex offenders on the site via each state's Attorney General. The states involved in the request are North Carolina, Connecticut, Georgia, Idaho, Mississippi, New Hampshire, Ohio and Pennsylvania.
MySpace has identified about 7000 profiles identified as possibly on the national sex offender registry in an effort with Sentinel Tech Holding Corp. MySpace however had refused to turn over the information citing a disclosure law barring it from giving away the information without a court order.
Official of MySpace had said they had always intended to provide information to law enforcement officials, but were trying to work out a legal process for handing over the information.
