Microsoft Announces Delay of Office 2008 for Apple Mac

{slot15}

Microsoft announced on Thursday that is will be pushing back the launch of its Office 2008 for Mac until January of 2008 due to bugs in the works. This is another delay from earlier this year. The new launch date is mid-January, set to correspond with the MacWorld Expo being held in San Fransisco from January 14th through the 18th.

Granted, Microsoft never gave a specific launch date this year but did say that it would be during the second half of this year, so pushing it back from that to mid-January probably isn't that much of an issue. However some Mac users aren't taking the delay much in stride as some forum posts around the Internet are quite critical about Microsoft when it comes to delays saying that this comes as no surprise. Others state that they will be instead turning to other open-source products such as OpenOffice and NeoOffice suites, or Google Docs.

Currently Microsoft is holding an invite-only closed beta of Office 2008 for Mac but have no plans to open that up to the general public. Microsoft executives did state though that there would be "sneak peeks" offered to users, but failed to elaborate just what those would entail.
