The sharp-tongued blogger claiming to be Steve Jobs, the CEO of Apple Inc. has been keeping Internet techies in stitches for for quite some time. The real funny part is that not only the fake Steve Jobs but the reporter that outed him are both from the "old media". The fake was Dan Lyons, the technology editor at Forbes Magazine and the outer was a reporter from the New York Times.
For fourteen months, Lyons, 46, has fooled around playing the fake Steve Jobs because he was "so easy to caricature". Lyons started studying up on Jobs since he had never reported on Jobs nor Apple and said that he found Jobs to be truly a genius but also really dark. Lyons said he thought of the trend of CEOs writing their own personal blogs that were anything but personal.
Internet techies everywhere took up the pass time of trying to figure out who really was this fake Steve Jobs. Many worked hard trying to track back email routing IPs and tracing electronic signatures but the Times reporter just applied some leather to the ground and started contacting people in the publishing world to gather hints from a proposal for a book that Fake Steve is coming out with in the fall. Lyons had written one novel already and said he found inspiration for another one while doing the blog, but was hoping to keep his identity a secret a little while longer.
