MySpace Agrees to Safety Plan
MySpace has been working with a coalition of law enforcement authorities in order to hash out and finalize a new plan to keep minors safe on the social networking site. MySpace has pledged under the agreement to work with the state's attorneys general to implement a set of principals to combat harmful materials commonly found on social networking sites such as pornography, identity theft, cyberbullying among other problems. MySpace further agreed to work toward better educating parents and schools about online threats. They further plan on not only cooperating with law enforcement authorities around the country but will also develop a new technology for age and identity verification on the social networking site. The task force is a multi-state force lead by the attorneys general Roy Cooper from North Carolina and Richard Blumenthal of Connecticut and it consists of the attorneys general of 49 states and the District of Columbia. The one hold out from the task force was Greg Abbot of Texas who stated that the measures proposed by the task force are not strong enough.
