Microsoft wants to maintain the sales momentum of the Xbox 360 going into E3 but it is facing very stiff competition from the Nintendo Wii and even from the Sony PlayStation 3.

Microsoft is reportedly getting more aggressive in the pricing department again, and not even waiting for E3 to do it either.

Microsoft Inc. is preparing for a really big show at E3 in Los Angeles and has every intention of going into the show with the Xbox 360 on the top of all of the sales reports. But the Xbox 360 has been facing some very tough sales competition from both the Nintendo Wii and from the Sony PlayStation 3.

So reports are that Microsoft intends to insure its "top of the sales chart" status by dropping the price of the Xbox 360 again by another $50. This would bring the 20GB unit down to $299, just about $50 more than the Wii. At the same time, the 40GB PlayStation 3 sells for $399.

In its most recent quarterly report, Microsoft reported the Xbox 360 sales have surpassed 19 million, up 74 percent from the year before. The Nintendo Wii has sold more than 22 million units, while the PS3 has only sold 10 million units.

It was thought that the recent sales of titles such as Halo 3 and Grand Theft Auto IV would increase the sales of the console considerably, and though Microsoft did see a modest rise in sales, it was not nearly the increase the company was hoping for.

Additional reports are that Microsoft is working on a motion sensitive controller similar to the Wii and PS3 controller for the Xbox 360. Likely that will be introduced at E3 if it is actually in the works.
