GameStop Says No One Wants a Zune

Microsoft Zune pulled from GameStop.

Microsoft Zune just isn't in demand according to a GameStop spokesperson. This was the reason cited for dropping the MP3 player from its sales lineup. GameStop is going to continue to sell the Zune until it depletes its current inventory though the nationwide entertainment chain store will not be replenishing its supply.

Microsoft seemed unconcerned with the loss of the supply chain though, as it is happy to have other productive outlets such as Wal-Mart, Best Buy, and Target. GameStop said that the Zune just didn't fit in with its product mix, being mostly a video game retailer and reseller and earns most of its income from video games and video game equipment.

The loss of the Zune is not expected to hurt sales of GameStop in any way. It was first brought into the sales lineup as an idea of cross-selling music players to video gamers, but it just did not materialize as GameStop had expected.

GameSpot has over 4,000 retail outlets in the United States and another almost 300 in Canada, all operating under the name of either GameStop or EB Games, or both.

The Microsoft Zune competes most closely with Apple's iPod which has the lion's share of the market with currently more than 10 million iPods sold in just the first three months of this year, compared to the Zune which has sold just over 2 million units since its launch.
