Google is reportedly looking at buying Valve Software. Their main interest is likely the Steam game distribution system. This is at least according to "well placed sources".

Valve Software is reportedly on the selling block, and the strong bidder according to reports is none other than Google. The Inquirer is reporting that "well placed sources" are confirming that the creator of Half-Life and the Steam game distribution system is indeed up for sale to Google.

Steam digital game distribution system is the creation of Valve and currently has more than 15 million users. This is the likely reason for the interest of Google in Valve.

This idea makes a lot of sense as more and more of the game industry seems to be turning toward digital distribution of video games and Steam was one of the first systems to be successful in this method. The system allows not only the distribution of games but also game updates and also enables online chat between gamers.

No matter how much sense this may make, the possibility of the sale is still speculation, and at this point this is as yet unconfirmed to GameSHOUT by Doug Lombardi, director of marketing at Valve Software, though Mr. Lombardi is reported as refuting the story to Kotaku.
