EA Announces Battlefield Heroes Play-4-Free
Electronic Arts announced a new way to play at Digital Life Design Conference in Munich. Battlefield Heroes, a cartoon-style shooter game along the lines of Team Fortress 2 is to be EA's new Play-4-Free game designed to bring great appeal to a mass audience. The game will be available for download at www.battlefield-heroes.com this summer and will be the first game EA has ever offered completely for free. Battlefield Heroes will include features such as a built-in matchmaking system to get players of similar skills together for play on the same server rather than matching players of high-quality skills with lower-skilled players. Battlefield Heroes is being developed by DICE in Stockholm. DICE is the same company that developed the original Battlefield series. This new free play model is designed to generate revenue through advertising and also through micro-transactions. This means that the game is free for entry level but most players will find that to really play the game at a level that will make a winner out of the player will require the purchase of higher level weapons and armor. Ben Cousins, Senior Producer at EA DICE said in a statement released on Monday that Battlefield Heroes will put a different twist on game play with the cartoon-style graphics and that there will be different types of game play that should appeal to many kinds of gamers. Mr. Cousins further said that EA will continually be adding new content in order to keep the content fresh and up-to-date. Share Article Link:
