Nintendo Wii sales are still on top followed by the Microsoft Xbox 360 and then the Sony PlayStation 3.

Nintendo has reason to celebrate again as the Wii continues to outsell all of the other game consoles. Numbers released by NPD market research firm for August showed a solid month for the most part though it was still a nine percent gain over August of 2008. Overall industry sales are up 32 percent year-to-date.

Nintendo sold more Wiis than both the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3 combined, selling 453,000 units for the month. The DS sold 518,000 units. The top-selling games on the Wii were the Wii Fit, Mario Kart Wii, Wii Play, Madden '09, and Guitar Hero: On Tour.

Coming in second in the console sales is the Microsoft Xbox 360 with 195,200. This allowed the Xbox 360 to take the second place position back from the PS3 but not by much. Madden '09 sold a million units for the Xbox 360, which analysts believe helped the Xbox in its sales for the month of August. Other top-selling games for the Xbox 360 were SoulCalibur IV and Too Human.

Sony came in third but still showed good growth for the month as the PlayStation 3 sold 185,400 units and the PSP sold 253,000 units. Additionally the PlayStation 2 is still going strong, selling more than 144,000 units for the month. Madden '09 also sold well for the PS3, selling 643,000 units.
